| Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council CEO honored for service to East Tennessee |

Knoxville, Tennessee (January 30, 2008): The Catholic Committee on Scouting and Youth has awarded one of its highest honors to Lucille Griffo, CEO of Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council, Inc. The council, headquartered in Knoxville, has more than 13,500 members in 16 East Tennessee counties. Griffo was awarded the Bronze Pelican award at a ceremony Saturday, January 26 in Knoxville. “This award is long overdue,” says the Scouting Committee’s George Lecrone. “Whatever Lucille has been asked to do for the committee and for children, she has always achieved.” Griffo was a Girl Scout as a child and has devoted her 38 year career to advancing the Girl Scout Movement. “I am honored by to chosen as a recipient of this award, because it reinforces the importance of the work we do for children and our communities,” says Griffo. “The Catholic Committee on Scouting works diligently to recruit, support and recognize adults who support the Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs.” Griffo says Girl Scouting is the world’s preeminent organization to build courage, confidence and character in girls ages 5-17. Under her leadership, Tanasi Council membership grew 20% in 2007. |
