Region's largest organization for girls elects new board members

Knoxville, Tennessee (April 7,2008):  Girl Scouts of Tanasi Council elected eight new officers and board members at its April 5, 2008, annual business meeting at the East Tennessee History Center in downtown Knoxville.

Tanasi Council has more than 13,200 girl and adult members in 16 East Tennessee counties—only the public school system serves more girls.

Tanasi Council’s board of directors is responsible for the governance of the council and the stewardship of its assets.  Board members are also committed to the Girl Scout Mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.


Newly elected board officers are:

  • Janice Greer, board chair. Greer is the president of Janice Greer Construction, LLC and has been on the board of directors for eight years.  She previously served as board secretary and third vice president.
  • Beth Hamil, third vice president.  Hamil is the director of Leadership Knoxville.  She is a former Girl Scout and troop leader, who has served on Tanasi Council’s nominating committee since 2003.
  • Nancy Bowen, treasurer.  Bowen is vice president, commercial relationship manager for Fifth Third Bank.  She has served on the council board and finance committee since 2005.


Reelected board officers were Mary Beth West, first vice chair; Laura Barron, second vice chair; and Celeste Herbert, secretary.


Newly elected board members are:

  • Terri Adams, vice president of risk management, Denark Construction
  • Mike Anderson, corporate director of purchasing, The H.T. Hackney Company
  • Gwen McKenzie, operations manager, CVS Caremark
  • Rosemary Moody, senior vice president, First Tennessee Bank
  • Andy White, affiliate broker, NAI Knoxville


Reelected board members were Ellen Fowler, Linda Green, LuAnn Jarnagin, Chuck Lang, Angela Masini, and Ann Marie Potts.

The board members have all been elected to serve through November, 2009.
