Barile was elected mayor of Morristown in May 2007. She has also served as executive director of Morristown/Hamblen Keep America Beautiful System and chairperson of the Rose Service Guild. “Being involved in Girl Scouts is one of the best ways I know for girls to develop self-confidence and poise—to learn that women can be leaders,” Barile says. Larkin is active in many area non-profit organizations, but is most proud of helping establish ALPS Adult Day Services—a day facility for adults who live with family members, but can’t be left home alone during the day. “My Girl Scout experiences formed the core of the woman I am today,” said Larkin. “I credit Girl Scouting with inspiring me to be to the best I could be and for giving me the yearning to learn and give back, to try to make things better.” Larkin was a Girl Scout from elementary school through high school and earned the highest honor bestowed by Girl Scouts of the USA: the Curved Bar. (The Curved Bar is now known as the Gold Award.) Major event sponsors are Caufman Oil, the Citizen Tribune, Emergency Coverage Corporation, Howmet Casting Corporation and Mahle, Incorporated.
