ProgramsCamp TanasiThousands of girls visit Camp Tanasi every year, getting girls outdoors to learn more about the East Tennessee’s valuable natural resources through our summer resident camp and troop camping opportunities. Girl Scout Camp Tanasi sits on nearly 500 forested acres on beautiful Norris Lake, where foothills frame the skyline and the lake laps the shore. Girls attending camp experience a balanced menu of outdoor learning and fun. Girl Scout CookiesEveryone knows about Thin Mints, Tagalongs and Trefoils, but many people don’t know the value behind the cookie. The Girl Scout Cookie Program helps girls develop important skills in goal setting, money management and teamwork. Community ServiceGirl Scouts have a long tradition of community service. Troops embark on projects throughout the year, but all Girl Scouts participate in at least one major Tanasi service project annually. Girl Scouts recognize that the written word is the most powerful form of communication in the 21st century. So each year, Girl Scouts of all ages give back to their greater community while promoting literacy through “Reading Rocks!” a public book drive in the 16-county East Tennessee region. Girl Scouts buy, collect and donate books for children ages birth to 14. Tanasi donates all books from this regional project to the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots. Our girls receive a participation patch for the program and the satisfaction of serving their community and the gift of reading. Girls also participate in service unit projects during Girl Scout Week, which begins with Girl Scout Sunday and ends with Girl Scout Sabbath. Discovery GuideGirl Scouts explore the world around them with their troop or family using the Girl Discovery Guide. Events and workshop ideas within the guide help Girl Scouts experience new programs, activities and badges year-round. Tomorrow’s LeadersGirl Scouting provides girls with the skills to be strong and courageous leaders. We recognize Senior Girl Scouts who have excelled in developing their leadership skills by defining their character and serving their community with the highest accolade in Girl Scouting – the Gold Award. Tanasi Council is also proud to annually recognize outstanding community leaders and former Girl Scouts with our “Women of Achievement” award. Beyond the TroopThrough partnerships with other program providers in our service area, Tanasi Council offers “Beyond the Troop” events that allow girls to explore community, culture and careers. We collaborate with more than 65 businesses, organizations and agencies to enhance the Girl Scout program and strengthen community bonds.
